Why we do this
1. To make practice feel like the real exam
Students take timed papers more seriously when there is something at stake. A target with a reward mimics exam pressure in a healthy, motivating way, so the real exam feels familiar rather than frightening.
2. To build a culture of integrity and effort
No cheating, no asking friends, no helping during class. Students are trained to complete papers independently and honestly, which is exactly what they will need to do on exam day.
3. To motivate students to put in their best
The reward is not really about the money. It gives students a clear, concrete reason to try their best on every single paper.
4. To help them track their growth
Students see their scores each week and watch their progress build over time. They learn, first-hand, how effort translates into results.
How we set targets
- Targets are not fixed. We slowly raise the bar as students get used to timed practices.
- Stronger students may be pushed earlier.
- For others, we start with achievable goals, just slightly higher than their previous score.
Support for weaker students
- We run extra sessions for students who are struggling.
- They come in during off-peak hours to do second attempts on the questions they got wrong.
- This reinforces the concepts and reduces repeated mistakes.
The real goal: exam readiness. By the time the PSLE arrives, your child will not only be used to the format and timing. They will also know how to manage their time, spot common pitfalls, and stay calm under pressure.
