PSLE Science: which way finds the volume of a glass? (A or B)

A short one for anyone revising volume and capacity.

Method A is the one everybody reaches for: fill the glass to the brim, pour the water into a measuring beaker, read the number.

Method B came from one of his students. Start with a known 400 ml in the beaker. Stand the glass on a plate. Pour into the glass until it overflows onto the plate. Take the glass away and tip the spilt water back into the beaker — it now reads 180. The difference, 400 − 180, is 220 ml.

He does not say which one he prefers, and neither will we. Tell us in the comments which one you would mark as correct, and why.
